In front of a sold-out crowd at Rockit on West Hubbard Street on Tuesday, Dec. 1, the
Midwest Independent Film Festival
announced its annual “Best of the Midwest” Awards in nine categories. Among the presenters were actor Armand Assante and Chicago-based director John McNaughton. Film critics Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times and Hank Sartin of Time Out Chicago also were on hand,
with the former reportedly engaging in a friendly “roast” with radio personality Erich “Mancow” Muller. Festival director Mike McNamara emceed. All of the nominees were taken from film shown this past year at the festival.
The Midwest Independent Film Festival offers screenings of new indie features on the first Tuesday of every month at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema at 2828 N. Clark. The events also offer local filmmakers, producers, and actors a chance to network. The next “First Tuesday” screening will be on Feb. 2. Other upcoming events include The First Annual Female Filmmakers Night on March 2, presented by SAG-INDIE.
