The Non-Equity Jeff Awards put tech theatre front and center on Monday night. Not only did they honor the 12 people who built the robots for Sideshow Theatre's Heddatron with a specialization award, but they used their robots to deliver awards, to much fanfare. The specialization award was shared with Izumi Inaba, who did makeup for Theo Ubique 's Cats. No cats were used in the production of the Jeff Awards.

But Theo Ubique 's musical did garner three other awards, for Brenda Didier's choreography and direction and Matt Guthier's costume design.

The Hypocrites ' production of Cabaret garnered five awards, including best production of a musical, director (Matt Hawkins), principal actress (Jessie Fisher), supporting actress (Kate Harris), and costumes (Alison Siple). They also took one award for lighting designer Jared Moore's work on No Exit.

The only other show that won three or more awards is Lifeline's Neverwhere, which won three Jeffs: Robert Kauzlaric's adaptation, Alan Donahue's scenic design and Mikhail Fiksel's sound design.

Oddly, even though Cats won more awards, It was Redtwist Theatre 's Man from Nebraska that took the top honors with the production of a play award. Chuck Spencer took home the play's other Jeff for his work as principal actor.

Strange Tree Group also had a good night, with two Jeffs for The Three Faces of Dr. Crippen (Emily Schwartz for new work and Jimmy McDermott for directing) and one for Shakespeare's King Phycus, which was produced in association with The Lord Chamberlain's Men.

In all, 27 awards were given out at the Park West. For the first time in a number of years, no individual won more than one award. However, four categories resulted in a tie: Director of a Play, Director of a Musical, Principal Actress, and Costume Design.
